Brighton Shock: Man Charged Over Corrosive Spray Attacks
Two Men Targeted in Late-Night Assault
A 27-year-old man has been charged after two men were sprayed with a corrosive substance in Brighton. Jamal Monan, from Riverside, Newhaven, was arrested on Friday, June 14. The victims, aged 20 and 32, were attacked on New Road and Oxford Street just after midnight on Wednesday, June 12.
Victims Recovering but One Needs Ongoing Treatment
Both men suffered facial injuries but are now recovering. The 32-year-old from Leicester is still receiving ongoing treatment for his wounds.
Multiple Charges: From Intent to Burn to Drug Supply
On Sunday, June 16, Monan was hit with serious charges: two counts of throwing a corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in public, involvement in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine, plus assaulting an emergency worker.
He appeared in court on Monday, June 17, and was remanded in custody. His next court date is July 15.
Police Call for Witnesses
Detective Inspector Rob Lewis said, “We understand these incidents are deeply concerning to the community. Swift action has been taken, with a suspect charged. Our investigation continues, and we urge anyone who witnessed the attacks or has any information to come forward.”
