Dad Stabbed to Death Outside Greenwich Bar – Killer Caught and Jailed
After a gripping three-week trial at Woolwich Crown Court, David Joseph Johnson, 37, from Haddo Street, Greenwich, was found guilty of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm with intent. He also pleaded guilty to carrying a bladed weapon.
Tragic Stabbing Sparks Outrage
Victim Ibrahim Bah, 34, was remembered by his family as “a loving father and a wonderful brother.” He was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Sunday, May 1, 2022, after a fight erupted outside Belushi’s bar near Greenwich railway station just after 2 a.m.
CCTV captured the chaos. Johnson pulled a knife from his waistband, slashing a 37-year-old man across the arm before lunging at Bah and stabbing him once in the abdomen. Bah collapsed on the pavement, with horrified onlookers rushing to help.
Killer Caught After Police Hunt
Bah was rushed to hospital but died an hour later. Detectives pieced together the attack using CCTV and mobile footage. British Transport Police arrested Johnson the next day at a New Cross address.
“Johnson’s senseless and cowardly violence caused the needless loss of a caring father,” said Detective Inspector Daren Bates, senior investigating officer. “My heart goes out to Bah’s family, whose lives will never be the same. While no verdict can change what happened, I hope they find some solace knowing Johnson will be behind bars for a long time.”
Family Pleads for an End to Knife Crime
Following the verdict, Ibrahim Bah’s family issued a heartfelt statement:
“Ibrahim was a loving father, a great son, a wonderful brother, and beloved by all who knew him. His loss is tragic and unnecessary. His son will grow up without his dad. We hope this heinous knife crime will finally end.
We’re pleased with the verdict and thank the officers, especially DS Paul Burbridge and Family Liaison Officer Jess Nye, for their support during this awful time.”
Johnson faces a hefty prison sentence as the fight to stop knife crime in the capital continues.
