Tragic Christmas Eve Blaze Claims Life in South London
Emergency crews were called to a deadly fire in South Norwood in the early hours of Christmas Eve. Despite heroic rescue efforts, a woman was found dead after flames engulfed a flat on Selhurst Road just after midnight on December 23rd.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Into The Night
Four fire engines and crews from Woodside, Croydon, and Norbury rushed to the scene following reports at 10.39pm. The fire was brought under control by 12.20am, but the damage was done. Part of the first-floor flat was heavily damaged by the fire.
Investigation Underway as Police Join Fire Brigade
The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade launched a joint probe to determine the fire’s cause. A crime scene remains established outside the property as specialist fire investigators dive deeper.
Official Statement
“Sadly, a woman has died following a flat fire on Selhurst Road, South Norwood. She was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital but later passed away,” a London Fire Brigade spokesman confirmed.
The London Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Officials have yet to confirm the origin of the blaze as investigations continue.
