Man Held After Woman Found Unconscious Near River Stour
A 45-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found unconscious in Brantham, Suffolk. Anita Rose, 57, was discovered lying on a track close to the River Stour estuary just after 6.25am on Wednesday by a passerby.
Victim in Critical Condition with Serious Head Injury
Ms Rose had left home around 5am to walk her Springer Spaniel, Bruce. She was found on a secluded track off Rectory Lane, near the railway line and local sewage works. Rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, she remains in a critical condition with a serious head injury.
Police Investigate Attack, Appeal for Witnesses
Suffolk Police confirmed the arrested man is being held at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre. Authorities say there’s no known connection between the suspect and the victim. Detective Inspector Mike Brown said:
“We are still working to establish the full circumstances of this incident. Our inquiries are ongoing, and we urge anyone with information to come forward. We also ask the public to avoid speculation on social media.”
Missing Jacket and Mobile Phone Sought
Police are also searching for Ms Rose’s distinctive pink jacket and her mobile phone, both reported missing from the scene. Specially trained officers have been deployed to support her family during this difficult time.
