In a heartwarming rescue, six ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain in Biggin Hill were saved by local firefighters and reunited with their worried mother. The incident occurred on Jail Lane on July 28, prompting a concerned passerby to call the Fire Brigade after spotting the ducklings trapped and unable to escape.
Firefighters from Biggin Hill Fire Station quickly responded, arriving at 4:32 p.m. and successfully completing the rescue by 5:20 p.m. The crew, using their specialist equipment, carefully removed the ducklings from the drain and reunited them with their mother, who had been anxiously waiting nearby.
Photos taken after the rescue show the delighted firefighters holding the ducklings, a sight that brought smiles to all involved.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson commented on the operation, saying, “Firefighters love animals too, and we are ready, willing, and able to assist distressed or injured animals – the last thing we want is for people to put themselves at risk rescuing an animal themselves. We do encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance, and we will assist if our specialist equipment is required, as in this case.
The rescue involved one fire engine and five firefighters from Biggin Hill Fire Station. Thanks to their swift and compassionate response, the ducklings were safely returned to their mother and able to waddle off together as a family.
