A serious assault investigation has been launched by British Transport Police (BTP) following a violent attack on a staff member at Ilford Station late on Wednesday night. The incident has led to the closure of the station platform, with forensic teams gathering evidence at the scene.

Emergency services, including paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and crews from the London Fire Brigade, were dispatched to support police officers after reports of the assault.

The staff member sustained significant injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police stated that they are treating the incident with urgency and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and officers are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called yesterday (Wednesday) at 8.36pm to reports of an incident at Ilford Station, Cranbrook Road, Ilford.

“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a response car, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

“We treated a man at the scene before taking him to a London Major Trauma centre.”

 

Officers were called to Ilford railway station at around 20.49PM yesterday (4 December) following reports of a serious assault. Paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance also attended, and a person was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Superintendent Nick Sedgemore said: “There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network. We are working at pace on this investigation and supporting the family of the victim.”

Ilford Railway Station has now fully reopened.
