Trowbridge Man Pleads Guilty After Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Swift Police Response

 

A man has pleaded guilty to multiple offences following the theft of a vehicle in Trowbridge, Wiltshire Police confirmed today (19 May 2025).

James Brewer, 49, of The Slipway, Staverton, admitted charges of handling stolen goods, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The case follows a swift investigation by Trowbridge Response Teams, who responded to a report of a stolen vehicle overnight between Thursday 15 May and Friday 16 May in central Trowbridge.

Thanks to proactive CCTV enquiries and fast coordination between Response Team 1 and Team 2, Brewer was identified and arrested on Saturday. The stolen vehicle was also successfully recovered.

Officer Praises Teamwork and Quick Arrest

Investigating officer PC Langley said:

“This case sends a clear message that those who steal vehicles and put others at risk by driving illegally will be identified and brought to justice.

Thanks to diligent CCTV enquiries, swift arrest work, and strong partnership between officers from Trowbridge Responses Teams 1 and 2, we were able to quickly recover the stolen vehicle and secure key evidence.

Due to this swift work and the strength of the evidence, the defendant had no option but to plead guilty.”

Brewer is due to be sentenced on 19 June 2025.
