Teen Found Guilty of Murder After Shooting Man in Broad Daylight Peckham
A 19-year-old man has been convicted of murder after fatally shooting 20-year-old Jesse Lloyd-Smith in broad daylight on a street in Peckham, south-east London.
Tragic Daytime Shooting Outside Jesse’s Home
On the afternoon of Wednesday, 10 July 2024, Jesse’s mother heard gunshots near their home on East Surrey Grove. She discovered Jesse injured shortly before 5pm. Despite emergency efforts and a rush to hospital, Jesse sadly died from his wounds.
The court heard how the killer, Charles, drove a silver Ford S-Max near the Damilola Taylor Centre, parked, then ran towards Jesse, firing five shots. One bullet struck Jesse fatally. Charles fled the UK soon after but was later arrested and brought to justice.
Family Pleads for Justice and Youth Safety
“Jesse was a young man filled with potential and dreams. His death is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life is,” said a family spokesperson. The family thanked the Met’s homicide team and London Air Ambulance for their support. “Fighting for justice is not just for Jesse but for every child in our community who deserves to live without fear.”
