Groomer Locked Up for 15 Years After Targeting Girls Online

Syed Shahreear Ahmed, 37, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for grooming and sexually assaulting six girls aged between 13 and 15. The horrific abuse unfolded over four years and was exposed during a trial at Southwark Crown Court on September 26.

Online Predator’s Twisted Web of Abuse

The Mossford Lane man used fake social media profiles to befriend young girls. He then sent indecent images and pressured them into meeting face-to-face. Once alone, Ahmed committed serious sexual offences.

  • The first police report came in May 2023, when a 15-year-old girl said he approached her on the app Wizz.
  • Days later, a 14-year-old escaped a sexual assault by jumping from Ahmed’s moving car.
  • Investigations later revealed four more victims across five counties: Cambridgeshire, Thames Valley, Essex, Kent, and London.

Police Uncover Staggering Evidence

Authorities seized Ahmed’s phones, analysing over 500GB of data. On June 13, 2024, he was found guilty of multiple crimes including three counts of raping a child, sexual assaults, grooming, and inciting minors to sexual activity. He had already admitted to taking and distributing indecent images of children.

Long Sentence and Lifetime Restrictions

Ahmed was handed 15 years in jail, followed by five years on licence. He will also be on the sex offenders register for life.

“It is due to the bravery of the girls who came forward that we have been able to achieve this outcome,” said Detective Inspector Peter Harvey from the Metropolitan Police. “Ahmed is a manipulative serial predator, and we remain concerned he may have other victims who have yet to come forward.”
