Huge Whale Stranded and Lost Off Cleethorpes on Good Friday
British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) sprang into action when a massive whale was spotted stranded on a beach at Cleethorpes, near Grimsby, this Good Friday. The colossal creature was first seen upright in the water, but rescuers found it lying helplessly on its side by the time they arrived.
Race Against Rising Tide Ends in Tragedy
With the tide rapidly coming in, rescue teams from BDMLR, HM Coastguard, and the local beach safety squad struggled to reach the whale safely. Sadly, the animal was soon submerged, leaving medics unable to carry out their work. Luckily, footage captured just moments before the whale vanished confirmed that it had likely died.
Male Sperm Whale Rarely Seen This Far North
Experts believe the whale was a male since female sperm whales rarely venture this far north. In fact, the last known sighting of a female sperm whale in UK waters was back in 2016. These giants are the largest toothed whales on the planet, growing up to a staggering 16 metres long.
