Man, 40, Stabbed to Death on Wimbledon High Street Named
35-Year-Old Charged with Murder
A 40-year-old man has been tragically stabbed to death on Wimbledon’s busy high street. Police have named the victim as Luke Brereton, from Mitcham, who died shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 22.
Charged Suspect in Court Today
Officers arrested a 35-year-old man just hours after the attack. Amar Zafar, of Cambridge Grove Road, Kingston, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. He is set to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court today (February 23).
Detectives confirmed the stabbing is an isolated incident, and no other suspects are currently being sought.
Investigation Underway, Witnesses Urged to Speak
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family. This is a shocking act of violence in the heart of a busy town, and we understand the impact this will have on the local community,” said Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley.
“While we have made an arrest, we still need anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. No detail is too small.”
