Bomb scare on Isle of Wight turns out to be digger part!
A major cordon was thrown up around Bembridge Point on the Isle of Wight after a local spotted what looked like unexploded ordnance on Sunday afternoon.
Alarm as suspicious object found on beach
The beach discovery caused alarm when a resident found a two-foot-long metal object partially buried in the sand. Bembridge Coastguard were quickly scrambled to the scene.
Bomb disposal team called in
The coastguard set up a safety cordon and sent photos to the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal (EOD) team. The experts agreed to attend for a closer look, raising fears of a possible bomb.
Bomb scare defused – it was a digger pin!
By 5.40pm, local gravel yard owner Nigel Bennett inspected the object and confirmed it was no bomb – just a digger bucket pin. He picked it up, threw it on the ground, then carried it back to his yard.
The cordon was swiftly lifted, and both the coastguard and EOD from portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth stood down.
