Van Smashes Into Erith’s Beloved De Luci Fish Roundabout!
The iconic De Luci Fish statue in Erith took a hard hit after a van careered into it on Monday, December 2. The crash left the landmark battered, with debris scattered around and one side smashed to bits. The van’s front end was also badly dented.
Police Say: No Injuries, No Arrests
The Met Police rushed to the scene but thankfully confirmed nobody was hurt. No one has been arrested over the smash, either.
“Officers attended the scene of a collision involving a van at the De Luci Fish roundabout. No injuries were reported, and the road was temporarily closed to allow for the vehicle’s removal,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Damage Report: Artist Called In
Gary Drostle, the artist behind the famous statue, was called along with technicians to size up the damage. The road was only shut for a short spell while the van was cleared away.
What’s Next for Erith’s Landmark?
The statue still stands but looks worse for wear. Authorities have yet to reveal plans for repairs or whether a full replacement is on the cards. Locals are worried about the future of this beloved cultural icon.
