Blast Sparks Blaze at Gosport Flat – Seven Hurt
Firefighters rushed to a suspected explosion at a Gosport flat, tackling roaring flames and rescuing seven casualties. The dramatic scene unfolded around 6pm on December 23rd at a two-storey property on Henry Player Avenue.
Flames and Smoke Erupt from Ground Floor Flat
More than 30 firefighters stormed the scene as smoke and flames poured from the ground-floor flat. Seven people were assessed by South Central Ambulance Service, with one rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Major Fire Operation Underway
- Six fire engines deployed from Gosport, Fareham, Cosham, Portchester, and Southsea
- Aerial ladder platform brought in for high-level access
- Neighbours evacuated as gas and electricity were isolated by emergency teams
- Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, jets, and tactical fans to battle the blaze
- Extensive damp down carried out to prevent flare-ups
Neighbours Left Shaken
Nearby residents were evacuated amid fears the fire could spread, with emergency crews working swiftly to secure the building. The cause of the suspected explosion remains under investigation.
