KFC at Fleet Services Razed in Fiery Blaze Starting From Coffee Machine
A devastating fire believed to have started in a coffee machine at the KFC in Fleet Services has ripped through the southbound service area, leaving it totally destroyed. The inferno erupted around 10.40pm on Wednesday night, sending flames soaring up to 30 feet high.
Massive Firefighters Response as Blaze Rages On
Firefighters from across the county sprang into action. Over fifty firefighters with 10 pumping appliances and seven water carriers battled the roaring flames, but the fire showed no signs of dying down. At one point, a gas main caught fire on the roof, adding to the danger and complexity of the blaze.
Major Traffic Disruptions on the M3
Authorities have warned drivers to avoid the area. One lane of the M3 southbound between Junction 4A (Farnborough) and Junction 5 (Hook) remains closed due to the fire. Police had planned a full shutdown of the M3 in both directions because of drifting smoke but later cancelled the closure, opting to monitor the situation closely.
Water Shortages Hampers Firefighting Efforts
Fire crews from as far away as Romsey and Fareham, some 60 miles from the scene, have been on duty for over six hours. Their efforts face a significant hurdle due to limited water supply. Seven water carriers from Fareham, Andover, Eastleigh, and Surrey have been drafted in to help control the blaze.
Drivers and locals are urged to stay clear of the southbound service area as emergency crews continue their relentless battle against the inferno.
