Major Incident in Amesbury After Two Exposed to Mysterious Substance
Wiltshire Police have declared a major incident after a man and woman were found unconscious, possibly exposed to an unknown substance in Amesbury.
Critical Condition After Mysterious Exposure
Emergency services rushed to a Muggleton Road home on Saturday evening. The two victims, both in their 40s, were discovered unconscious and are now in critical condition at Salisbury District Hospital.
What’s Behind the Poisoning?
Wiltshire Police initially suspected contaminated heroin or crack cocaine. But tests are ongoing to pinpoint the exact substance.
“We are keeping an open mind about the circumstances,” a police spokesperson said.
“It’s not yet clear if a crime has been committed. We’ve launched a full investigation and coordinated a multi-agency response.”
Precautions Underway in Amesbury and Salisbury
- Several locations frequented by the victims are cordoned off overnight as a safety measure.
- Police presence in Amesbury and Salisbury has been ramped up.
- Salisbury District Hospital remains open for routine appointments unless told otherwise.
Public Health England Issues Reassurance
Public Health England has said there is currently no significant health risk to the wider public. They will keep monitoring the situation closely.
“Based on the number of casualties, there’s no major risk to the public at this time,” a PHE spokesman said.
