Deputy Chief Constable Awarded Queen’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service

Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) Barber of Nottinghamshire Police has been honoured with the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) for her distinguished service. Joining the force in April 2017, Barber has quickly become known as a trailblazer in police leadership and employee wellbeing.

Champion of Staff Wellbeing and Diversity

The official citation praises DCC Barber as “one of the most supportive leaders of police employee wellbeing” and an “exemplary role model.” She has been instrumental in improving the wellbeing of police and fire staff during tough times, including the Covid pandemic. Barber’s leadership helped forge a strong collaboration between Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

  • Led joint initiatives such as co-located training and a combined drone unit
  • Spearheaded efforts to boost diversity within the police force
  • Implemented new approaches to occupational health and shared estates management

This partnership has not only protected frontline services but also delivered significant cost savings. Politicians and officials alike have praised her strategic vision and ability to bring people together.

National Charity Work and Personal Reflections

Beyond her policing duties, DCC Barber serves as a national trustee for the Police Treatment Centres and the Police Children’s Charity, supporting injured officers, staff, and their families. She is widely respected for her compassion and leadership in these roles.

“I am extremely humbled, surprised and honoured to receive this award,” Barber said. “Seeing so many new officers and staff from diverse backgrounds join the force and train in our new combined headquarters has been one of the most rewarding moments of my career.”

“Supporting our staff to face significant challenges is a top priority, and this award recognises the efforts of the entire team.”

Praise from the Top

Chief Constable Craig Guildford joined in congratulating DCC Barber:

“On behalf of the entire force, I’d like to congratulate DCC Barber for receiving this prestigious award. Her dedication and major contributions to policing and public service in Nottinghamshire have been truly outstanding.”
