The fire broke out on the evening of Saturday, 4 October 2025, at the mosque on Phyllis Avenue. The blaze caused serious damage, but worshippers inside acted fast after spotting flames and managed to get out unharmed.

Sussex Police released chilling CCTV footage showing two masked suspects in dark clothes approach the mosque. They poured flammable liquid around the entrance before setting it alight.

Crimestoppers condemned the “shocking and dangerous” attack and announced a £10,000 reward for information leading to the culprits’ conviction.

Police are hunting for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from Phyllis Avenue on that night.
