Burglar caught after raiding two homes in Worksop – jailed for over two years!
Raiders Strike Upstairs in Furnival Street
On 24 September 2022, residents of a Furnival Street home in Worksop came home to find they’d been targeted by a burglar. Ryan McLaughlin sneaked in through an open upstairs window and ransacked the bedroom.
He made off with hundreds of coins, a half sovereign, a quarter sovereign, sentimental jewellery, brooches, and even the victim’s medication.
Fingerprints Seal the Deal
Unluckily for McLaughlin, he left behind clear fingerprints on the window frame, handing police a perfect lead.
Double Trouble – Hits Another Home Days Later
The thief wasn’t finished. Between 10.35pm on 3 October and 12.30am the next day, he struck again at a Park Street address. The homeowner was none the wiser, relaxing and watching TV as McLaughlin tore through drawers and cupboards, making off with more jewellery.
Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court
McLaughlin, 40, currently at HMP Nottingham, faced Nottingham Crown Court on 22 March. After pleading guilty to burglary and theft, he was sentenced to two years and four months behind bars.
Police Investigator Mark Duncombe said: “McLaughlin showed complete disregard for his victims by invading their safe spaces and stealing belongings of great sentimental value. These crimes have hit the victims financially and emotionally.
“Your home should be your sanctuary. That’s why we have dedicated burglary teams working tirelessly to stop offenders and bring them to justice.
“I hope this sentence brings some peace to the victims and sends a clear message that such behaviour won’t be tolerated.”
