Brutal ATM Attack in Peterborough Ends with Jail Sentence
Alexander McAllister, 29, and his accomplice Jason O’Keefe, 44, launched a vicious assault on a man withdrawing cash from an ATM near Tesco in Broadway, Peterborough city centre. The attack happened just after 1am on 2 September last year.
Victim Beaten and Robbed
The pair sneaked up behind their victim, dragged him to the ground, then hammered him with kicks and punches. Despite being stunned, the man fought back. During the attack, the criminals stole £30 from him before fleeing down Westgate.
CCTV Leads Police to Culprits
CCTV operators quickly alerted police, who gave chase and arrested McAllister and O’Keefe shortly after.
Sentences Handed Down at Huntingdon Law Court
On Friday 21 April, McAllister, from Mitchell Close, Eastgate, Peterborough, was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to robbery.
O’Keefe, of Charnwood Close, Fletton, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and received a suspended sentence of 29 weeks. His robbery charge was left to lie on file.
DC Jeremy Turner said: “People should be able to enjoy a night out in the city centre without worrying about becoming a victim of crime in this way. I’m pleased these men have faced justice and hope it’s gone some way to making the city centre a safer place.”
