Liam Killigrew Jailed After Knife Point Robbery and Stabbing in Colliers Wood
Knife Rampage at Local Newsagent
Liam Killigrew, 47, homeless and dangerous, has been locked up for over 10 years after a shocking knife point robbery in Colliers Wood. On Saturday, 27 June, Killigrew was caught red-handed taking money from a newsagent till on Liberty Avenue.
When staff confronted him, he plunged a knife into one of the shopkeepers’ backs.
Staff Heroics Stop Killer Escaping
Other employees didn’t hesitate. They slammed the shutters down, trapping Killigrew inside the shop and called police immediately.
The stabbed shopkeeper survived but was left with significant injuries. He was rushed to hospital, thankfully none life-threatening.
Violence Continues in Hospital
Killigrew was arrested on the spot and taken to hospital for a pre-existing condition. But he didn’t calm down. Instead, he smashed the hospital room ceiling in a fresh bout of violence.
Detective Praises Staff Bravery
“This was a terrifying ordeal for staff members and in particular the victim, who was extremely lucky not to have received more serious injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Ben Stephenson.
“Killigrew brazenly took money from the till and had no qualms in attacking the victim with a knife when challenged. I must commend the staff for their bravery in making every effort to ensure Killigrew was not able to escape arrest; even though they must have been in fear for their lives.”
“The significant sentence handed down is only right given the danger he poses.”
On Thursday, 13 May at Kingston Crown Court, Killigrew was sentenced to 10 years and four months for knife point robbery, causing grievous bodily harm, and criminal damage.
