Armed police swoop in Portsmouth after Worthing imitation firearm scare
A 35-year-old man was arrested after a high-tension police chase involving armed officers from Sussex and Hampshire Constabularies. The incident kicked off with a violent altercation on Warren Road, Worthing, just before 3pm on Wednesday, May 21.
Chase Ends in Armed Arrest
After the disturbance, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. Armed police tracked and stopped him with a dramatic intervention on Eastern Road, Portsmouth.
Man Bailed Amid Ongoing Investigation
The man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm. He has since been bailed while police carry out further enquiries.
“Police responded to a report of an altercation in Warren Road, Worthing, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, 21 May. A vehicle left the area and was later stopped by Sussex Police and Hampshire Constabulary armed response officers in Eastern Road, Portsmouth,” a Sussex Police spokesperson said.
“A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, and has been bailed, pending further enquiries.”
