Belfast Man Jailed Over Callous Rape and Assault

A 39-year-old Belfast man, Stephen Dalton, has been handed a hefty prison sentence for raping and sexually assaulting a vulnerable young woman. Laganside Crown Court sentenced Dalton to six and a half years, with half the time behind bars and the remainder on licence.

Shocking Attack on Vulnerable Victim

Detective Constable Grant revealed Dalton preyed on the woman after she got separated from her friends. The court described his actions as ruthless and flagrantly ignoring consent, underlining that any breach of consent is rape.

Long-Term Protection Orders Put in Place

  • Dalton to be on the Sex Offenders Register for life
  • Sentenced also includes a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order

These restrictions are designed to keep Dalton under close watch and protect the community from further harm.

Police Praise Heroic Bystander and Victim’s Courage

Detective Grant praised a passer-by who stepped in during the attack and lauded the victim for her bravery in helping police with their investigation. The Police Service of Northern Ireland reiterated its dedication to treating all sexual assault reports with the utmost seriousness and urged victims to come forward, promising respectful and dignified support.
