Charlie Gard’s Parents Heartbroken as ‘Beautiful Boy’ Passes Away
Charlie Gard, the 11-month-old baby at the centre of a high-profile legal battle, has tragically died, a family spokesman confirmed today. The little boy was moved to a hospice after a High Court ruling ended his fight for treatment abroad.
Brave Fight for Treatment
Charlie suffered from a rare genetic condition causing progressive brain damage and muscle weakness. His parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, battled Great Ormond Street Hospital in the courts to take him to the US for experimental therapy.
Legal Battle Comes to a Heartbreaking End
On Monday, the couple called off their legal fight after doctors said treatment was no longer possible. Connie Yates said in a statement, “Our beautiful little boy has gone, we are so proud of you Charlie.”
Just days earlier, a High Court judge ruled Charlie would be moved to hospice care and have life support withdrawn, denying the family their “final wish” to spend more time with him.
Rest In Peace, Little Man
A nation mourns the loss of this brave baby boy. Rest in peace, Charlie.
