Hero Police Dog Nabs Drug Dealer in Bognor Regis Sting

In the early hours of November 28, 2023, Sussex Police’s canine unit went full throttle in Bognor Regis. Reports of drug dealing and antisocial behaviour sparked a crack-down on Hastings Close and Trinity Way. Enter PD Billy, a five-year-old German Shepherd with a nose for trouble.

Canine Cop Sniffs Out Fleeing Suspect

At around 1:10 am, officers spotted a hooded figure bolting into the shadows. They unleashed Billy, whose expert tracking skills quickly caught the suspect hiding between two houses. The dog’s speed and training made the arrest a breeze.

Hidden Drugs and a Knife Found Thanks to Billy

But Billy wasn’t done. After the suspect was cuffed, the dog’s sharp nose led cops to a stash hidden under concrete slabs—cannabis, scales, “deal bags,” and a knife were all recovered.

Suspect Faces Justice

20-year-old James Boden, from Queens Field West, Bognor, later pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in public and possession of cannabis after fleeing police. He appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on March 12.

On July 3, Boden received a community order requiring 120 hours of unpaid work, £150 in court costs, and a £114 surcharge. No jail time, but a clear message sent.

Police Dogs Prove Critical in Crime Fight

This case highlights just how vital police dogs like PD Billy are. Their “nose, speed, and vigilance” not only lead to swift arrests but keep our streets safer from drugs and violence.

Sussex Police’s canine unit remains on the frontline, protecting communities countywide and stopping crime in its tracks.
