Man Jailed After Threatening to ‘Slit the Throat’ of MP Ed Miliband
Michael Donaldson, 56, was arrested on March 22 after making a terrifying threat against former Labour leader Ed Miliband in Bentley. Donaldson confronted the MP and warned he would “slit the throat” of Miliband, leaving the politician and his staff visibly shaken.
Disturbing Threats Escalate in Police Custody
Initially, Donaldson tried to brush off his horrific comments as a “joke.” But while in police custody, he was overheard saying, “Ed Miliband… He will be in a body bag when I see him next.” The chilling remark only deepened concerns for the MP’s safety.
Quick Police Action Leads to Guilty Plea
Detective Constable Jack Goodall, leading the investigation, said, “Donaldson’s behaviour was incredibly alarming and caused Mr Miliband and his staff to be considerably concerned for their safety. Officers acted swiftly, and with the evidence, he had no choice but to plead guilty in court.”
Sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court – Ban from MP’s Office Enforced
Donaldson, of Askern Road, Bentley, admitted to one count of making a threat to kill. A second threat charge was ordered to remain on file. On August 29, he was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court. While the sentence details remain under wraps, a restraining order now bars him from entering Mr Miliband’s constituency office.
