Man Jailed for 18 Years Over Brutal Murder of Dubai Chef in London
Deadly Attack in Queensway
A 31-year-old has been locked up for 18 years after being found guilty of murdering Mussie Imnetu, a 41-year-old chef visiting the UK from Dubai. The chilling attack happened on 26 August 2024 in the Queensway area of W2 around 11:22pm. Mussie was found unconscious with a severe head injury, and despite emergency efforts, he died four days later on 30 August.
CCTV and DNA Seal the Case
Police swiftly honed in on Omar Wilson, aged 31, from Leytonstone. CCTV footage tracked Wilson heading to a nightclub on Gaunt Street just 90 minutes after the savage assault. Crucially, his DNA was found on a pair of sunglasses dropped at the scene. Even more damning, Wilson’s house and car keys were left behind, and mobile phone data confirmed his presence during the crime.
Jury Finds Wilson Guilty After Emotional Trial
Wilson denied the charges during his February 2025 hearing, claiming self-defence. But the jury wasn’t convinced. After a three-week trial, they handed down a murder verdict. Text messages sent by Wilson after the attack were key to the prosecution. One message read: “There’s a monster in me … and I think I’ve messed up now … I’m going jail in the morning.” Another said, “I did the hands ting… finished one guy man.”
Tributes and Tough Justice
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said, “Our thoughts remain with Mussie’s family and friends in Dubai, Sweden, and London. Mussie was a loving husband, father, son, and a respected chef. He was here to train colleagues and had been enjoying the post-Notting Hill Carnival atmosphere when he was brutally assaulted.”
Wilson was arrested just two days after the attack on 28 August 2024 and charged the following day. His 18-year sentence reflects the horror of the crime and the strength of the evidence.
Modern Forensics Deliver Justice
This case highlights how CCTV, DNA, and digital footprints are crucial weapons against violent crime. Wilson’s attempt to flee and blend into London nightlife failed, showing that no escape is possible for killers. Justice has been served for Mussie Imnetu and his grieving family across the globe.
