South London Fraud Trio Nabbed in Global Scam Sting
Three men in their forties, Jonathan Iheanyichukwu Abraham, Emmanuel Samuel, and Jerry Ozor, all originally from Nigeria, were arrested at properties across south London yesterday morning. They were hauled before Westminster Magistrates Court as extradition proceedings kicked off. The trio was then remanded in custody.
International Bust Hits Fraud Network in Spain and Portugal
Spanish authorities struck again, cuffing additional suspects linked to the scam in Madrid, while coordinated police action also unfolded in Portugal. The sweeping operation targeted an international web of crooks who conned millions, mostly from elderly and vulnerable people in the US.
National Crime Agency (NCA) investigators joined forces with the US Department of Justice, US Postal Inspection Service, and European enforcement agencies. Their mission: track down suspects, gather evidence, and take down this ruthless fraud ring.
Fake Inheritance Letters Target Victims’ Savings
The scam worked by sending unexpected letters claiming that a long-lost relative had died and the recipient was entitled to inherit their assets. Victims were lured into further contact, then coaxed into paying fees to release the supposed inheritance. The losses were often devastating.
Thousands have fallen victim, with millions in fraud losses already uncovered.
NCA Speaks Out on Cruel Elderly Targeting
David Smithers, Senior Investigating Officer at the NCA: “Anyone can be a victim of fraud, but this scam was particularly cruel as it repeatedly and deliberately targeted the elderly and vulnerable.
This joint operation shows just how complex organised fraud is – it’s often transnational, involving ruthless criminals working together across borders to pick off victims.
“Proceedings are now underway to extradite these suspects to the US where they will face prosecution.
“The NCA is committed to hunting down serious organised criminals, especially those behind serious fraud that can shatter lives. We will keep working with our international partners to build intelligence and bring these perpetrators to justice.”
