Body Found by A3 Sparks Murder Probe

Police launched a murder investigation after a body was discovered next to the A3 in Guildford on Monday, 23 August. Surrey and Sussex’s Major Crime Team are hunting for answers and have released CCTV images showing the last sightings of victim Helen Anderson.

Last Sightings: Helen’s Pink Dress & Short Hair

The CCTV footage, captured on the evening of Friday, 20 August, shows Helen around 10.30pm in Wood Green. Detective Inspector Chris Rambour described her appearance: “Helen Anderson is pictured wearing a distinctive, brightly coloured pink dress. She appears to have shaved shorter hair on one side and is wearing large dangly earrings.”

Police urge anyone who saw Helen before or after this night to come forward immediately.

Double Decker Bus Linked to Case

Officers also released photos of a decommissioned double decker bus connected to Helen’s death. The bus reportedly travelled around the A1 near Watford and Hatfield between midnight and 4am on Saturday, 21 August. Investigators want anyone who was in the area at that time to step up with information.

Suspects Charged & Ongoing Appeal

  • Dane Messam, 52, of Hackney, charged with murder.
  • 50-year-old man from Enfield arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail.
  • 51-year-old man from Hackney arrested on conspiracy to commit murder and released on bail.

The trial is scheduled for 14 February 2022.
