Leicester Man Charged with Terror Offences After Major Police Probe
A 27-year-old man from Great Glen, Leicester, stood before Westminster Magistrates Court today (Thursday, October 29) facing seven serious terror-related charges.
Hisham Chaudhary Arrested After Counter-Terror Sweep
Hisham Chaudhary, 27, of Chestnut Drive, was arrested on the morning of October 22, 2020. The operation was led by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, with support from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands and Leicestershire Police.
Serious Charges Filed Under Terrorism Act
- Four counts of disseminating terrorist publications (Terrorism Act 2006, section 2(1))
- One count of membership of a proscribed organisation (Terrorism Act 2000, section 11(1))
- Two counts of entering into a funding arrangement (Terrorism Act 2000, section 17)
Chaudhary has been remanded in custody and will next appear at the Central Criminal Court on November 6.
Woman Arrested and Released
Separately, a 29-year-old woman from Leicester was also detained during the investigation but has since been released without charge.
