National Crime Agency (NCA) detectives cracked the case thanks to the encrypted messaging platform EncroChat. The platform was used to coordinate the massive lab and distribute £2 million worth of drugs wholesale.

Andrew Gurney, 52, aka ‘The Geek’ from Quinton, Birmingham, used his electrical and plumbing skills to convert a double garage into a high-tech drug factory. His right-hand man, Keith Davis, 62, was sent for chemistry training to keep the operation running smoothly.

When authorities finally raided the outbuilding, noxious fumes poured out, confirming the dangerous scale of the operation. Both Gurney and Davis faced justice after a court ruling that increased their original sentences to a hefty 10 years each.
