Brutal Assault Shocks Edmonton
Arif Ahmet Alidov, 51, from Edmonton, was locked up for 26 years after savagely attacking his then-partner in a horrifying street assault. The Wood Green Crown Court found him guilty of attempted murder, threats to kill, assault with intent to rob, possession of an offensive weapon, ABH, and strangulation.
Horrific Attack Caught on Day and Night
On July 6, 2022, Alidov dragged his partner by the hair at her workplace, pushing her to the floor until she lost consciousness. Despite her colleagues stepping in, Alidov refused to back down. Later that same day, he called to threaten her life, warning her not to call the police.
The nightmare escalated the next day when Alidov stabbed his partner multiple times, leaving her fighting for her life. Bystanders bravely stepped in, pinning Alidov down until officers arrived.
Detective Praises Public for Life-Saving Action
“The repeated violence inflicted was horrific. The public’s swift intervention prevented even greater harm,” said Detective Constable Bex Heitlinger, lead investigator on the case.
Heitlinger urged other victims of domestic abuse to seek help immediately, reminding them that support services are ready and waiting.
Victim Recovers Thanks to Quick Medical Response
The victim received life-saving treatment and has since been discharged from hospital. This case underscores the vital role the community plays in spotting danger and acting fast to stop domestic violence.
