Levi Bellfield Claims He Killed Russell Family in Shocking New Statement
Notorious killer Levi Bellfield, locked up for life for murdering schoolgirl Millie Dowler and two others, has dropped a chilling bombshell. He’s now claiming responsibility for the brutal Russell family murders — crimes previously pinned on Michael Stone.
Michael Stone Convicted Twice for Russell Murders
Stone was found guilty twice of murdering Lin Russell and her six-year-old daughter Megan in Kent in July 1996. He was also convicted of trying to kill Megan’s sister Josie, who survived the savage attack.
The horrific assault saw the mother and daughters bound, blindfolded, and bludgeoned with a claw hammer on a quiet country lane in Chillenden.
Stone’s conviction initially fell apart after an appeal in 2001 questioned a key prosecution witness. But in a retrial, he was again found guilty. Attempts to overturn his conviction through the Criminal Cases Review Commission failed in 2010, followed by a rejected judicial review in 2011. Stone continues to protest his innocence.
Bellfield’s Statement Could Shake Up The Case
Stone’s solicitor, Paul Bacon, has now revealed he received a four-page statement from Bellfield. The confessed murderer details the killings, including what he was wearing and how he executed the attacks — information allegedly known only to the true killer.
Currently behind bars for the murder of 13-year-old Millie Dowler, Bellfield is also convicted of killing Marsha McDonnell and Amelie Delagrange and attempting to murder Kate Sheedy. He is serving a whole-life tariff and will never get parole.
Authorities Watching Closely
A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson said: “This is currently not a matter for the CPS but we stand by to assist with either a new police investigation or a CCRC referral.
The new statement could spark fresh investigations and potentially rewrite the story of one of Britain’s most haunting unsolved cases.
