Two Women Hit With £10,000 Fines Over Massive Covid Party in Canterbury
Two women face hefty £10,000 fines each after breaking Covid-19 rules by throwing a huge house party in Canterbury.
Police Find Over 30 Partygoers in Breach of Lockdown Laws
Kent Police officers on patrol in Ulcombe Gardens were drawn to loud noise in the early hours of Thursday, 22 October 2020. Inside the house, they discovered more than 30 revellers partying with a DJ and a dance area.
The police quickly reminded the crowd about current Government Covid guidelines and shut the party down. The next day, two 19-year-old women were formally reported for organising the event and slapped with fixed penalty notices, piling on the £10,000 fines.
Covid Restrictions Still Tight Amid Rising Cases
Kent Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Nicola Faulconbridge warned: “Covid-19 remains a real and deadly threat, with the prospect of rising cases an ongoing concern across the UK.”
“We’ve had multiple reports this week of illegal gatherings in Canterbury, mostly involving young adults. It’s simply unacceptable. These parties risk spreading the virus and could lead to harsher lockdowns for the whole county.”
“Social gatherings, indoors or outdoors, are limited to no more than six people. Organising unlawful groups over 30 is a criminal offence punishable by heavy fines.”
Police Urge Public to Follow Rules for Upcoming Festivities
Faulconbridge added: “Parties like this don’t just endanger attendees but also their families and colleagues, who may be vulnerable.”
“With Halloween and Bonfire Night approaching, everyone must stick to current restrictions. We all have a part to play to stop the virus spreading and save lives.”
The police vow to continue working with local councils, schools, and universities to enforce rules. They will focus on educating the public but won’t hesitate to crack down on rule-breakers.
