Man Found Dead in Salford Sparks Murder Probe

Greater Manchester Police have launched a formal murder investigation after a man’s body was discovered in Salford last week. The grim find was made on Thursday 7 December 2023, prompting GMP’s Major Incident Team to take charge of the case.

Body Found Near Salford Cricket Club

Officers rushed to a home on Great Cheetham Street at around 2:35 am following a call. After a thorough search, they found the body on land between Great Cheetham Street West and the Salford & Broughton Cricket & Football Club.

Victim Identified – Family Supported

The deceased has been named as 43-year-old Tanyaradzwa Julius Matara. His family is receiving support from liaison officers at this heartbreaking time.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith said, “The Force had been searching for Julius since he was reported as a high-risk missing person at the end of October. This is a truly sad ending.” She also asked for privacy for the mourning family.

Investigation Underway – Public Urged to Help

Three men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder but have since been released on bail. DCI Smith thanked the Salford community for their patience and urged anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward.
