Bomb Squad Called in After Explosives Found in Hollingbourne Standoff

A huge counterterror operation is gripping Hollingbourne after police discovered multiple homemade bombs at a property tied to Sean O’Meara, the man shot by cops during a violent showdown near the Park Gate Inn on Monday night.

Bomb Squad and Army on Scene

Specialist search teams and the British Army bomb squad have located and safely neutralised several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the scene. A police spokesperson said:

“We continue to work with specialist partners to ensure the area is secure. We appreciate the public’s patience as precautionary measures remain in place for everyone’s safety.”

Major Road Closures and Traffic Chaos

The M20 has been shut between junctions 8 and 9 (Ashford), with the A20 facing intermittent closures all week. Drivers are forced onto diversions via the A2 and M2, but severe congestion is plaguing nearby villages, especially Ringlestone Road and Penfold Hill.

IOPC Launches Independent Probe

As with all police shootings, the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation. Amanda Rowe, Director at IOPC, confirmed:

“Our investigators are working to establish the facts. At this stage, no officers are under investigation for misconduct or criminality – they are being treated as witnesses. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.”

Community on Edge – Pub Closed

The quiet Hollingbourne community remains on high alert. Nearby homes have been evacuated and the Park Gate Inn pub remains closed amid ongoing safety measures.

“We appreciate your continued patience and understanding. We will keep you updated and look forward to welcoming you back once it’s safe,” a pub spokesperson said.
