Hero Cop Saves 90-Year-Old at Channel Tunnel
Kent Police honoured their finest at the Chief Constable’s Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, 3 September 2024. Among the stars was PC Grant Pollard, who risked it all to save a 90-year-old man at the Channel Tunnel. While on armed patrol, PC Pollard found the elderly man unconscious and not breathing. He sprang into action, performing CPR and using a defibrillator. His quick thinking earned him a prestigious Royal Humane Society award.
Top Detectives Crack Down on Insulate Britain Chaos
Detective Chief Inspector David Higham and Detective Sergeant Andy Jennings were recognised for nailing the Insulate Britain protesters who caused mayhem on the M25 and at Dover Port in 2021. Their meticulous investigation led to 109 charges against 74 protesters, including 77 counts of Public Nuisance. Their work set a national benchmark in tackling disruptive protests.
Folkestone’s Finest Secures Local Streets
PC Nicholas Holley received the National Police Chiefs Council of Merit Award for his outstanding service in Folkestone and Hythe. In seven years on the job, he’s made a major impact, recently cracking down on a burglary spree that saw five masked suspects arrested for breaking into local cafes. Named one of the top 12 response officers nationwide, PC Holley’s dedication keeps the community safer every day.

Kent Police Chief Constable Tim Smith personally presented the awards, applauding the officers and staff for their “outstanding professionalism and dedication.” He said, “These awards highlight the complex challenges Kent Police face daily and the extraordinary commitment that makes a real difference in our communities.”
