Blaze in Portsmouth High-Rise: Over 50 Firefighters Battle Bin Chute Fire

More than 50 firefighters swooped on a fire in a Portsmouth tower block in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The alarm raised at 1:44am saw crews rush to Handsworth House, Somers Town, tackling flames in the bin chute.

Fire Rages on 15th and 16th Floors

Using six breathing apparatus sets and three powerful jets, firefighters battled the blaze affecting the 15th and 16th floors. The fire was snuffed out in under an hour, with the all-clear given at 4:12am.

Two Hospitalised With Smoke Inhalation

South Central Ambulance Service rushed two people to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no other injuries reported.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched a joint fire and police probe to uncover the cause of the fire. More updates expected as the investigation progresses.
