Croydon Mayor’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ on Fly-Tipping Looks Like a Flop Over Rogue Flags

Croydon Council Stands Down on Flag Trouble

Croydon Council, led by Mayor Jason Perry, boasts a “zero tolerance” stance on fly-tipping and fly-posting. But when it comes to unauthorised flags popping up across the borough’s streets, the council has yet to lift a finger.

Surrey County Council Snaps Into Action

Meanwhile, Surrey County Council is cracking down hard. Their crews have started removing these rogue flags around Caterham and near the borough border at Coulsdon Common. Many of these flags carry links to the far-right campaign “Raise the Colours,” sparking alarm.

Croydon Council claims it’s working with Surrey but points out, “Surrey County Council is responsible for lampposts and street furniture within our boundary.” So far, no obvious moves from Croydon’s side.

Safety at Risk, Surrey Says No to Unlicensed Flags

Surrey’s highway teams routinely patrol roads, stripping away any unlicensed or unsafe items. They’ve already tackled St George’s Cross markings painted on streets, restoring proper road signs. An official warned, “Unlicensed attachments to lamp columns will be removed during routine inspections to protect public safety.”

Residents must get approval before sticking anything on street lighting columns — no exceptions.

Flag Frenzy Under Close Watch

Surrey County Council isn’t taking this lightly. They’re keeping a close eye on the flags and their divisive messages. Police are on board too, monitoring the situation as tensions simmer.
