Storm Katie Chaos: Thieves Swipe Two Yamaha Outboards from Gosport Marina
In the dead of night during Storm Katie, brazen thieves struck at Gosport Marina. Between midnight and 3am on Bank Holiday Monday, March 28, 2016, they smashed into the Drystack compound and made off with two powerful Yamaha 300HP outboard engines.
High-Sided Van Used in Daring Heist
The stolen engines were ripped from two rigid inflatable boats stacked high in the marina. Witnesses say the crooks used a tall white panel van — possibly a Mercedes Sprinter or Volkswagen Crafter — to haul the gear away under cover of darkness.
Police Hunt for Marina Night Watchers
Officers are urging anyone who spotted suspicious activity near Mumby Road and Harbour Road over the bank holiday to come forward. “If you were walking home late or saw anything odd near Gosport Boatyard, please speak up,” police said.
