Brighton Beach Patrol Garage Torched in Early Morning Blaze
Fire crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue rushed to Brighton Beach Patrol at 1:17am after a fire broke out. Pictures sent to Sussex News show severe damage to the rear of the building.
Vital lifesaving equipment destroyed
The garage stores essential gear for the beach patrol, including a quad bike and lifesaving equipment used to monitor and protect vulnerable people on Brighton Beach at night.
Man arrested over suspected arson
A police spokesperson confirmed: “A 23-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of arson.”
Brighton Beach Patrol fights to keep going
Brighton Beach Patrol, set up in 2015 by Resolve Security Solutions, works to save lives by preventing risky night-time swimming. Now a registered charity, the group relies heavily on their equipment to perform their critical role.
Brighton and Hove Council’s Seafront Office has stepped in with a loan of a quad bike while the fire damage is assessed.
BBP said, “With the support of other agencies, we are committed to keeping our vital service running.”
