Five-Year-Old Girl Burned As Firework Set Off Near Packed Cosham Display
Police are investigating after a firework dangerously exploded near a 5-year-old girl in Cosham, just yards from a major bonfire night event. Witnesses say the firework narrowly missed the little girl’s eye and even set her coat on fire.
Chaos Near Packed King George V Playing Field
The shocking incident happened close to the petrol station near King George V Playing Field, where 30,000 people gathered for an organised fireworks display. The girl’s family, who prefer to remain anonymous, were walking to the event when the firework was let off by a group of youths before the official show began.
Paramedics treated the child at the scene before she was rushed to hospital with burns from her jacket catching fire.
Parents Speak Out in Horror
Kelly Turner described the terrifying scene: “One narrowly missed my friend and her youngest son too. Glad I stayed indoors. Such a shame people have to ruin a good evening with such awful behaviour.”
Another parent, Clare Hussein, said, “There were kids letting off fireworks in the street close to the field. One hit the five-year-old, narrowly missing her eye, and I saw her coat was on fire.”
