RNLI Lifeboat Launches in Tragic Bembridge Rescue
The RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat, RNLB Alfred Albert Williams, was scrambled this Sunday afternoon to aid a casualty spotted 10 nautical miles south-east of Bembridge.
Urgent Call-Out from Solent Coastguard
At 4.57 p.m., Solent Coastguard requested the lifeboat’s immediate assistance. The crew sprang into action, heading out to the location reported by a Brittany ferry’s crew.
Search Ends in Heartbreaking Discovery
HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 joined the search and found a body around 6.20 p.m.
By 7.45 p.m., RNLB Alfred Albert Williams recovered the casualty and returned to Bembridge. Emergency services, including police, were waiting to take over.
