Storm Babet death toll rises to three
Storm Babet has already claimed three lives across the UK. In Shropshire’s Cleobury Mortimer, a man in his 60s drowned after being swept away by fast-moving floodwaters. In Angus, a falling tree crushed a van, killing the 56-year-old driver inside. Tragedy also struck when a 57-year-old woman lost her life after being swept into a river.
Widespread power outages and travel chaos
More than 100,000 homes were plunged into darkness after Storm Babet. The Energy Networks Association confirms 96% have had their power restored, but around 4,000 customers remain offline. Severe weather warnings are still in place, hampering repair efforts.
Travel disruption piles up. Leeds Bradford Airport remains shut after a plane skidded off the runway. It’s set to reopen at 2pm. TUI passengers affected are being redirected to Manchester Airport. Passengers are urged to check flight updates before travelling.
