Dramatic Night Rescue: Lifeboat Saves Sailing Yacht Off Bembridge
The RNLB Alfred Albert Williams sprang into action at 9.43pm on Wednesday, 4th October. The Tamar All Weather Lifeboat was called out by the UK Coastguard to aid the sailing yacht Rosalyn, stranded 2.2 nautical miles southeast of Bembridge.
Yacht Engine Fails as Winds Soar
The 39-foot, 17-ton Rosalyn had set off from Portsmouth for South Wales earlier that day. But when winds picked up off St Catherine’s Point, the crew of three wisely turned back—only to suffer engine failure just off Bembridge.
Lifeboat Crew Pulls Off Smooth Tow Back to Safety
- Alfred Albert Williams reached Rosalyn by 9.48pm.
- Quickly secured a tow to Bembridge Harbour.
- Yacht safely berthed on the Visitors Pontoon by 11pm.
- Lifeboat returned to Offshore Boathouse and was recovered by 11.30pm.
Thanks to the swift response of the lifeboat crew, a potentially dangerous situation was brought under control without a hitch.
