Storm Hannah Strands Vessel on Rye Harbour Coast

Coastguard Scrambles After 999 Call

Bembridge Coastguard sprang into action after a member of the public dialled 999 to report a 19-metre vessel stuck just east of Ryde Harbour. The UK National Maritime Operations Centre quickly tasked the rescue team to investigate.

Rescue Craft Caught in Calm Before the Storm

On arrival, the crew found an Autonomous Rescue and Recovery Craft firmly aground. It’s believed the vessel had been stuck for about 24 hours, trapped in the eerie calm before Storm Hannah struck.

Owner Takes Control, Coastguard Stand Down

The owner managed to secure and anchor the vessel safely, so the Coastguard stood down without taking further action. They are now hoping the rising high tide this evening will help the vessel refloat and sail free again.
