Huge Blaze Hits West Wellow Thatched Home – 100+ Firefighters Battle Flames

Massive Fire Erupts Late Evening

Just before 10pm, Fire Control received a 999 call reporting a serious fire at a thatched house on West Wellow Road, West Wellow. Within minutes, multiple fire crews were dispatched to tackle the inferno.

Firefighters Go All Out to Contain Blaze

The thatched roof was fully ablaze, but thankfully everyone had already escaped the property. Over 100 firefighters, officers, and support staff joined the fight, deploying 16 fire engines, two water carriers, and environmental protection units. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews worked tirelessly to stop the blaze from spreading further.

Area Manager Jason Avery said: “All crews, officers and our Control team worked tremendously hard throughout the incident. I am very proud of them.”

Fire Under Control – But Serious Damage Done

The “stop” message came through at 5am, with one fire engine remaining to monitor and dampen hotspots. Miraculously, no injuries were reported. However, the house suffered heavy damage.

Investigation Underway

Fire investigators are set to return today to determine the cause of the devastating blaze.
