Chaos on M20 and Surrounding Roads as Freight Traffic Buckles Under Operation Brock
Kent Police and National Highways are scrambling to control traffic chaos near the Channel Tunnel.
Contraflow Stacks Lorries to Manage Congestion
The coastbound contraflow on the M20 is being used to stack lorries between junctions 8 and 9. The eastbound entry slip at J11 remains closed to ease freight congestion near the Channel Tunnel’s J11a exit.
Road Closures Hit Freight Access to Dover Port
- The A2 eastbound is shut between the A256 junctions near Whitfield. This blocks freight trying to reach Dover Port directly, forcing all traffic through Operation Brock’s J8-J9 contraflow.
- The A20 Roundhill Tunnel eastbound is also closed between M20 J13/A259/A2034 and the A260 in Dover as part of traffic management under Operation TAP.
Follow Diversions or Face Long Delays
Local and freight traffic must follow the hollow circle diversion sign:
- Leave M20 at J8.
- At roundabout, take 2nd exit onto A20 eastbound towards Ashford.
- Continue through Harrietsham, Lenham, Charing to Drovers roundabout.
- Take 1st exit to stay on A20 towards M20.
- At M20 J9 roundabout, take 3rd exit to coastbound M20 and continue.
EU freight should exit at M20 J8 and rejoin via the entry slip at the same junction.
If you’re travelling this route, expect delays and consider alternative routes or delaying your journey.
