Eastbourne Lifeboat Scrambles Over ‘Human Body’ Sighting
Eastbourne’s volunteer lifeboat crew sprang into action on Thursday, December 15th at 3:15pm. They were tasked to launch their All Weather Lifeboat following a chilling report of a human body spotted in the sea.
Belgian Trawler Sparks Search 16 Miles Off Coast
The sighting came from a Belgian trawler, which reported the body 16 miles south-east of Sovereign Harbour. Lifeboat crew, backed by a Coastguard helicopter, raced to the scene to investigate.
False Alarm as ‘Body’ Turns Out to Be Seal
After a thorough search, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter confirmed the “body” was actually a deceased seal. All units were stood down, and the lifeboat returned to base by 7pm for refuelling and readying for the next call.
This was logged as a false alarm — but one with good intent.
