BBC’s New Comedy Gem Only Child Begins Filming

Filming has kicked off on Only Child, a cracking new six-part comedy from BBC Comedy and BBC Scotland. Produced by Happy Tramp North, the show stars the legendary Gregor Fisher (Rab C Nesbitt, Love Actually) alongside the brilliant Greg McHugh (The A Word, Fresh Meat) as a feuding father and son.

Plot: Father-Son Drama with a Comic Twist

The series follows Richard, a wannabe actor and only child, who returns to his family home in Scotland to care for his stubborn, ageing dad Ken (Fisher). Ken’s technophobia and old-school stubbornness cause plenty of clashes as Richard battles to help the man who’s reluctant to admit he needs it. Expect sharp neighbourly spats and heartfelt domestic comedy packed into every episode.

Filming Across Scotland This Summer

Production will take place in Glasgow and across the North East of Scotland throughout the summer. Written by Bryce Hart, Only Child is set to air on BBC One and iPlayer, promising a fresh take on family dynamics and inter-generational conflict.

The cast is stacked with top Scottish and Irish talent including Amy Lennox, Stuart Bowman, Forbes Masson, Clare Barrett, Robin Laing, and Paul Rattray.

Stars Beam with Excitement

Gregor McHugh said: “If you’d told my younger self I’d be shooting a father-son comedy with one of my heroes, Gregor Fisher, I wouldn’t have believed you. Bryce Hart has written a brilliant show full of laughs and touching moments. I can’t wait to get going!”

Gregor Fisher added: “I’m delighted to be working with young McHugh on Only Child for the dear old BBC.”

Only Child is a Happy Tramp North production, with Al Campbell directing and Ursula Haworth producing. The show was commissioned by BBC bosses Jon Petrie, Louise Thornton, Gregor Sharp, and Gavin Smith, with development support from Screen Scotland.
